Trading Range:

Nifty opened gap up at 12197 on Wednesday and made a high and low of 12238 and 12163 respectively before closing positive at 12222.


For the day, support for Nifty exists at 12180 and 12100 levels whereas resistance for Nifty stands at 12270 and 12320 levels.


Bank Nifty opened gap up at 32292, made a high of 32294, low of 32017, and closed positive at 32244. For the day, support for Bank Nifty exists at 32000 and 31800 levels whereas resistance for Bank Nifty stands at 32400 and 32600 levels.

In a major victory for former Tata Sons’ Chairman Cyrus Mistry, the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) ordered Tata Group to reinstate him as executive chairman, a post from which he was ousted following a boardroom coup in 2016. On its part, Tata Sons said it “strongly believes” in the strength of its case and will take appropriate legal recourse. (BL).
Vodafone Idea Business Services (VIBS), the enterprise arm of Vodafone Idea on Wednesday announced the launch of Vodafone Secure Device Manager (VSDM), powered by IBM Security MaaS360, and Unified End-point Management (UEM).  As part of the agreement with IBM, VIBS will use IBM Security MaaS360 to deliver an AI approach to UEM to enable endpoints, end users, and everything in between — including apps, content, and data. (ET).
NMDC Limited, the iron ore mining major has announced that it has received the allocation of Rohne Coal Block in Jharkhand, the company informed the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). This allocation by the Coal Ministry would ensure the State-owned mining company NMDC, which had diversified into steel making through forward integration, meet its coking coal requirement of its upcoming steel plant at Nagarnar in Chattisgarh to some extent. Indian Oil Corporation Limited’s (IOCL’s) INDMAX refining technology has been licensed to Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) of Serbia for production of higher value products. Lummus Technology Inc, USA, is the global licensing partner for IOCL’s INDMAX technology. An IndianOil statement said that this is the first ever overseas agreement to licence IndianOil's INDMAX refinery process technology for high propylene production. (ET).
FMCG major Nestle India respects the order by the National Anti-Profiteering Authority asking it to deposit Rs 73.15 crore with Consumer Welfare Fund for not passing GST rate reduction benefit to consumers, and will examine the next course of action to be taken, said Suresh Narayanan, Chairman and Managing Director, Nestle India Ltd. Alltech is keen to enter the beverages and distillery sector in India, according to Mark Lyons, its President and CEO. The $2-billion, Kentucky-based company, which has a strong presence in India with the organic trace mineral manufacturing plant in Pune for animal feed, is scouting for partners in its new venture. The British subsidiary of Punjab National Bank (PNB) has lost its UK High Court appeal in a USD 45-million deceit claim against seven individuals and two companies, based in India and the US. (BL).

Toffee Insurance, a digital first insurtech startup, has secured series A funding of $ 5.5 million. This funding round was led by IVM Intersurer with Omidyar Network, Flourish Ventures, Accion Ventures Lab and Kalaari Capital. In more news, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, CPPIB Credit Investments, has committed to investing $225 million in the India Resurgence Fund platform, which is backed by Piramal Enterprises Ltd and Bain Capital Credit. Japan’s Isuzu Motors will buy Volvo AB’s UD Trucks business, which has an enterprise value of $2.3 billion, and tie up with the Swedish firm to cut costs and develop electric and self-driving technologies. (ET).
Sugar mills in the country have produced 45.81 lakh tonnes of sugar till December 15, nearly 35 per cent less than the 70.54 lt produced in the corresponding period the previous sugar season, said a statement from the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) on Wednesday. In more news, Ratings agency Icra on Wednesday said the Indian pharmaceutical industry is expected to grow around 10-12 per cent between FY2019 and FY2022 while maintaining a stable outlook on the sector. Non-life insurance companies registered a rise of 13.1 per cent in their collective premium in November to Rs 14,590.50 crore, data from Irdai showed. The business premium in the same month of the previous year by these 34 non-life insurance firms stood at Rs 12,903.57 crore. Out of the total non-life insurers, the 25 general insurers registered an increase of 11 per cent in their premium income at Rs 12,723.61 crore during the month, as against Rs 11,508.67 crore in the year-ago same period, showed the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai) data. In more news, ratings agency, ICRA has revised the year-end outlook for the Power sector from stable to negative. The rating is driven by critical factors like the slowdown in energy demand growth, sluggish progress in the resolution of stressed thermal assets and; less than expected improvement in discom finances. DJIA and NASDAQ Composite

US markets turned in a mixed performance on Wednesday as investors eyed impeachment proceedings and continued to mull over Sino-US trade developments. The Dow Jones Index closed at 28,239, down 27.88 points by 0.10%. The Standard & Poors 500 index closed at 3,191, down 1.38 points by 0.04%. The Nasdaq Composite Index closed at 8,828, up 4.38 points by 0.05%.

FTSE 100

UK markets finished on a mixed note on Wednesday as investors mulled the latest UK inflation data ahead of this week’s Bank of England policy announcement, with domestic stocks such as housebuilders under the cosh amid lingering concerns about a no-deal Brexit. The FTSE 100 index closed at 7,541, up 15.47 points by 0.21%.

Asian stocks started trading early in the morning on Thursday on a negative note as the investors will be closely watching the US markets. Nikkei is currently trading at 23,934, down 131.69 points by 0.55%.

Precious Metals

Gold futures ended lower Wednesday, losing ground as the U.S. dollar drifted to the upside and U.S. benchmark stock indexes looked to extend their recent gains.

Base Metals

The three-month prices of base metals on the London Metal Exchange traded in slim ranges to consolidate mixed at the afternoon kerb on Wednesday December 18.

Crude Oil

Oil futures struggled to stretch their streak of gains to a 5th session in a row, with U.S. prices seesawing as U.S. government data revealed a weekly decline in domestic crude supplies that was smaller than the market expected.
