Trading Range:

Nifty opened gap up at 12132 on Monday and made a high and low of 12160 and 12037 respectively before closing negative at 12046.


For the day, support for Nifty exists at 11980 and 11900 levels whereas resistance for Nifty stands at 12110 and 12160 levels.


Bank Nifty opened gap up at 30874, made a high of 30998, low of 30630, and closed negative at 30681. For the day, support for Bank Nifty exists at 30500 and 30300 levels whereas resistance for Bank Nifty stands at 30900 and 31100 levels.

Sajjan Jindal-backed JSW Energy Ltd has acquired GMR’s Kamalanga Energy Ltd for Rs.5,321 crore. Post the acquisition, the total installed power generation capacity of JSW Energy will increase to 5,609 MW. (BL).
The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal has approved the Rs.19,700-crore resolution plan of JSW Steel to takeover the bankrupt Bhushan Power and Steel. The approval comes with the immunity sought by the new owner against investigations being carried out against the erstwhile promoters of Bhushan Power and Steel. In more news, JSW Steel on Monday said it has emerged as preferred bidder for three iron ore mines in Odisha with an estimated reserves of 1,092 million tonnes. These three mines are Nuagaon, Narayanposhi and Ganua, it said in a regulatory filing to the BSE. (ET).
Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), which conducted an MSME customer outreach programme in Hyderabad, outlined its efforts to step up exposure to the MSME segment in the country. (BS).
In a big-ticket real estate deal, Godrej Properties on Monday said it has acquired nearly 27 acre land parcel in the national capital for ₹1,359 crore to develop a luxury housing project. (ET).
State-owned natural gas utility GAIL is likely to appeal before the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) against the Adjusted Gross Revenues (AGR) dues demanded by Department of Telecommunications, according to a report by ICICI Securities. (BS).
Syngene International Ltd, a global contract research organisation, has commissioned the first phase of its new R&D centre in Genome Valley, Hyderabad. (ET).
Tata Motors on Monday said it plans to raise Rs.500 crore through issue of securities for which a committee of its board will meet on February 24. Tata Motors’ board in its meeting held on October 25, 2019 had approved and authorised raising of additional funds up to Rs.3,500 crore through external commercial borrowings, listed, unsecured, rated, non-convertible debentures or any other form of borrowing or in any combination. The Competition Commission of India ( CCI) has approved ZF’s acquisition of 100 per cent shareholding in WABCO. (ET).

Tata Steel Ltd is expecting its capex during the current fiscal to touch the Rs 9,000-crore mark, company sources said. (ET).
Vodafone Idea and Tata Group have made part payment of about Rs 2,500 crore and over Rs 2,190 crore, respectively, to the telecom department towards statutory dues, a government official said on Monday. The official source privy to the development said that while VIL has made payment of Rs 2,500 crore, Tata Group has paid over Rs 2,190 crore. (BL).
Bharti Airtel on Monday said that it has paid Rs10,000cr to the telecom department towards statutory dues. Further, the telecom company said as much as Rs9,500cr has been paid on behalf of Bharti Airtel (including Telenor India which merged with the company), and another Rs500cr for Bharti Hexacom. (BL).

E-scooter manufacturer Nexzu Mobility, formerly Avan Motors, on Monday announced foray into the fast growing e-bicycle segment with the launch of three variants– Roadlark, Aello, and Rompus. The three vehicles are priced between Rs.25,000-37,000, a company official said. In more news, Biological E. Ltd on Monday commissioned its manufacturing plant at the Genome Valley Special Economic Zone near here and unveiled its new Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV). (BL).
About Rs.16,000 crore worth solar projects, adding up to a total capacity of 3,000 MW, could be at risk of penalties for missing their respective scheduled commercial operation date (SCOD), if the impact of the coronavirus outbreak on trade with China prolongs, according to an analysis by Crisil. In more news, private equity and venture capital investments into India hit an all-time high of $48 billion in 2019, Padmanabh Sinha, Chairman, Indian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (IVCA), has said. Amidst indications of the deadly coronavirus hitting global growth, international rating agency Moody’s Investors Service on Monday lowered the estimate for India’s economic growth rate for 2020 by 120 basis points (100 basis points make up one percentage point). In more news, The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has projected a credit potential of Rs.27,989.04 crore for Assam in the 2020- 21 fiscal. The projection is 17 per cent higher than the previous year with the share of agriculture and allied activities accounting for nearly 61 per cent, according to NABARD’s ‘State Focus Paper 2020-21’ released by Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora here on Monday. Domestic airlines flew 1.28 crore passengers in January this year registering a growth of 2.20 per cent over the 1.25 crore passengers flown in January 2019. The latest data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation shows that IndiGo carried 61.20 lakh in January this year followed by SpiceJet (21.24 lakh) and Air India (14.78 lakh). GoAir flew 12.47 lakh, Air Asia 8.83 lakh and Vistara flew 8.31 lakh passengers during the month in review. In more news, paper & paperboard imports increased 16 per cent in the first nine months of this fiscal to 12.75 lakh tonnes from 11 lt logged in the same period last year, even as the Indian paper industry is reeling under excess capacity. DJIA and NASDAQ Composite

US markets were closed on Monday for Presidents' Day holiday. The following numbers are for the previous trading session. The Dow Jones Index closed at 29,398, down 25.23 points by 0.09%. The Standard & Poors 500 index closed at 3,380, up 6.22 points by 0.18%. The Nasdaq Composite Index closed at 9,731, up 19.21 points by 0.20%.

FTSE 100

UK markets finished slightly higher on Monday as investors welcomed signs that Chinese authorities are prepared to boost stimulus measures to support the virus-hit economy. The FTSE 100 index closed at 7,433, up 24.12 points by 0.33%.

Asian share markets started trading early in the morning on Tuesday on a negative note as the investors will be closely watching the US markets. Nikkei is currently trading at 23,523, down 164.35 points by 0.69%.

Precious Metals

Gold settled higher Friday to post a modest weekly rise as investors attempted to gauge the economic impact of the spread of COVID-19 in China.

Base Metals

The three-month copper price on the London Metal Exchange was higher at the close of trading on Monday February 17, topping gains across the base-metals complex despite low trading volumes, while zinc gathered momentum over the afternoon but remained rangebound.

Crude Oil

Oil futures settled higher on Friday to score a weekly gain—their first in six—as traders assessed reported signs of Chinese demand for crude against a backdrop of concern about the impact of COVID-19 on the global economy..
