Commodity

With the advent of National Commodity Exchanges in late 2003, the Indian market witnessed a historic revolution. It was now possible for any individual to buy and sell commodities' derivatives just like equity derivatives, and this resulted in the creation of huge electronic 'mandis'. The commodity markets provide better price discovery, hedging opportunities and prices that are aligned with international markets.

Why Commodities?
Commodity markets are one of the biggest in the world and since the number of commodities listed are lesser than shares, it makes it easier to track them. Also, the concepts of demand and supply are easier to understand and the margins required are lower. Since the correlation with the equities markets is low, commodities are a perfect hedging option.

Who can participate?
Actual buyers and sellers are the main users, however, hedgers and arbitrageurs also participate actively, and there is room for speculators as well.
